Top Technology Trends for 2017

The New Year is at its daybreak and experts from various industries have started making predictions about the upcoming trends that will prevail. Adding to the list, Gartner has also given organizational insights into what organizations can expect in strategic technology in 2017.

Gartner considers strategic technologies as those that will have significant potential over the next five years. He also explains that the strategic technologies are the “prime enablers behind digital and algorithmic” business opportunities. His predictions are designed to offer organizations with an understanding of the emerging technologies that are having an impact on society.

Here is a summary of the top technology trends.

Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning – Wit these advanced technologies and techniques, organizations will be able to move beyond traditional rule-based algorithms and solutions that understand, adapt, learn, and operate autonomously. For instance, in banking, professionals could use AI to model present real-time transactions, and even predictive transaction models based on their likelihood of being deceptive.

Intelligent apps – Year 2017 will saw a huge rise in the mobile app development companies. This is because intelligent apps with technologies like virtual personal assistants (VPAs) have the potential to turn any workplace more productive by making everyday tasks easier and its users more effective. In addition, intelligent apps will not be limited to new digital assistants and will also cover existing software category including security tooling, enterprise applications.  With AI, technology providers will emphasize on three prime areas — AI-powered and increasingly autonomous business processes, advanced analytics, and AI-powered immersive, conversational and continuous interfaces.

Intelligent Things – Gartner says that intelligent things are also a part of AI, and are designed to offer beyond rigid programming needs. Some examples are drones, robots, and autonomous vehicles. It is predicted that intelligent apps and things would not be possible without Artificial intelligence.

Virtual and augmented reality – Immersive technologies are changing the way people interact and software systems that create an immersive environment. Gartner sees the immersive technologies landscape dramatically evolving through 2021. Both VR and AR can be applied through smartphones, Internet of Things, head-mounted devices, and other wearables. This will present big opportunities to web development companies as well as mobile app development companies.

Digital twins – According to Gartner, “A digital twin is a dynamic software model of a physical thing or system that relies on sensor data to understand the state of the thing or system, respond to changes, improve operations, and add value.” Digital twins combine condition or state, metadata, event data, and analytics. Its benefits for the businesses include improved user experience, asset optimization, and more complex high-value assets.

Conversational systems – With innovative technology, people are now able to interact with microphone-enabled devices and chatbots. With the evolution of technology, Gartner expects the rise of intelligent contextual experiences like Google Now, Alexa,  Siri, Cortana, and more solutions beyond audio and video. The repost states, “New input/output mechanisms will emerge using audio, video, touch, taste, smell and other sensory channels, such as radar, that extend beyond human senses. This will enable people to communicate with systems, and systems to communicate with people, in rich conversations that include more than text and voice”.

Adaptive security architecture – IoT, AI, and other emerging technologies would demand even more security in the coming years. Depending on the traditional techniques won’t be enough. Security architectures would include access control, network security, endpoint protection, vulnerability management, and basic monitoring.

Digital technology platforms – Digital technology platforms are considered as the building blocks of a flourishing digital business. The Gartner report states that there are five major aspects businesses should ensure as they develop new platforms including information systems, analytics and intelligence, customer experience,  IoT, and business ecosystems.
